AHEPA München 'Friedrich von Thiersch' e.V. is dedicated to promoting civil rights and the ancient Hellenic ideals of education, philanthropy, civic responsibility, family, and individual excellence. Through community service and volunteerism, we strive to uphold these values and make a positive impact on society. AHEPA is the largest Greek-American organization with an ecumenical presence and has more than 3 million members over time. Apart from the USA and Greece and Cyprus, the Organization has developed significant activity, with more than 500 branches in 28 Regions, in Canada, Australia, Europe, Istanbul and South Africa.


Friedrich Wilhelm von Thiersch
Friedrich Wilhelm von Thiersch (17.06.1784; † 25.02.1860) was a German philologist, also known as the "Praeceptor Bavariae" (teacher of Bavaria) and the "father of humanistic education" in Bavaria. He supported the Greek Revolution by collecting financial aid for Greece and promoting the creation of a German Legion to fight at the side of the Greek rebels.
